Good breeders with quality healthy birds sell their birds at fair market prices. Be aware that an unbelieve deal that seems too good to be true is almost always a SCAM.
Also good quality breeders have their birds and aviaries screened for disease regularly to be sure their birds are healthy and have no health concerns
Be careful of bird sale scams. Many people are taken in every day by bird sales scams. In these scams you find birds listed for amazing prices, For example a baby hand fed blew and gold Macaw (at the time oft this writing at $5,500 bird) for $400 dollars or so. People can't believe their luck and purchase the bird, the seller promises the bird but need that and the cost of shipping etc. Some are even told when to pick up the bird at the airport. The bird never arrives. Just like romance scams. They will be told the bird is stuck in this or that place or customs and need more money to get it through. By the time it's over, the poor scammed person is out more a lot of money, often more that the cost of the bird for a honest breeder, with no bird at all. A few people get into one of these loops and spent a lot more.
All things on Google, Bing and other internet browsers and controlled by an algorithm. This is a program that collects all the prices listed for any given bird species it finds on the internet and averages it, then list it as the average price.
Since this algorithm collects information from these scam sites selling birds for ridiculously low prices as well as people selling old birds, giving way very old or nasty birds and the realistic prices for each species for bird, it distorts the listed price on the search engine.
so right now on google it says the average price for a blue and gold macaw is $700 dollors which is 3 times less that pet stores by them whole!
I understand that. Thats why a good breeder will offer you to come visit the birds in person. Send pictures and videos, and if that's not possible they will offer to facetime, or use other social media to let you "visit" with the birds. Also they will take the time needed to talk with you and help you become comfortable with them and the bird they are interested in. They understand you are adding a feathered family member, not picking out a new pair of shoes.
You're not alone. Having a bird shipped to you can seem overwhelming at first. But it's actually very easy. We ship all our birds via Delta animal shipping. They are the plane for less that 12 hours in general, They are never on the plane for a full day. They are put in bird safe, travel safe crates with food and water and Delta is so use to shipping live birds they know exactly what they are doing,
The bird will arrive at your needest Delta shipping place, to Delta terminal where you pick it up and take it home.
We have never had a bird injured or in anyway harmed. In general at the date this writing, depending on where you live in relation to Boston Logan Airport, most shipping cost between $200 and $300 dollars (subject to change based on airfair changes and crate size) which is paid by the buyer.
